Reviews are out of four stars.

"Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" ($49.99 for Xbox 360) is the 10th Lego video game based on a movie or comic book, and the second set in the Batman universe. The franchise has adapted stories from the Indiana Jones, Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises to create the kid-friendly gameplay the series is known for. It's been nearly four years since the first Lego Batman title, and developer Travelers Tales tries to evolve the series with "Lego Batman 2" by introducing a large cast of DC Comics characters and new gameplay features.

In "Lego Batman 2," The Joker and Lex Luthor, the arch nemesis of Superman, team up to destroy Gotham City with Lex's Deconstructor weapon. Batman and Robin attempt to thwart the villains with some help from the rest of the DC Comic heroes.

The game's charm is present in the humorous writing and character design, the staples of the series. In the past, Lego games have reenacted movie scenes through pantomime and the occasional grunt, but this is the first game to have dialogue. "Lego Batman 2's" story and script were created for the game.

"Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes" adds too much to the series' kid-friendly simple formula, making the experience too complex for children yet not compelling enough for the experienced gamer. New open-world gameplay lacks polish and a rotating split-screen for cooperative play is a major headache for both players.

"Lego Batman 2" may still provide an enjoyable experience for big fans of either the video-game series or Batman, but Lego games are at their best when they keep it simple.
