Jenn Menendez: Alright, welcome everyone, let's get started.
Chris: Is Alston back this weekend? And, how much was he missed against Maryland?
Jenn Menendez: No official word on whether or not Shawne Alston is back this weekend. That said...sounded very much like he will be. Holgorsen said on Tuesday they probably could have used him a little more last Saturday against Maryland but he didn't practice much the week leading into the game. A lot of coaches use that philosophy. He said if he has three good practices this week - which he expects he will - he should be likely to play.
So my guess is he's out there in near full force.
Jenn Menendez: And he was missed a ton. He's the only back they have that can break tackles, and make something out of nothing. That's key.
Dave: How is Garrison, is he ready yet?
Jenn Menendez: As for Garrison, the word is that he will be slowly getting back to 100 percent over the course of the next month or so. Coach Gillespie said the other day he's at about 85 percent or so and should be back to full strength in a few weeks. The staff also keeps mentioning the mental aspect of returning from a major surgery like that. It's hard for anyone, particularly a college level running back, to trust the strength after something like that. So I think a lot of it is mental for him right now, which is understandable.
wvfan: how do you see wv defense stacking up again Baylor's offense?
Jenn Menendez: I think this is the game we really see what this defense is made of. I think they will give up yards, that's for sure but the key will be coming up with some big turnovers. Baylor is averaging something like 6-plus yards per play on offense, which would be hard for the best defenses to slow down.
Chris: Is the offensive line a worry again?
Jenn Menendez: According to the coaching staff, game tape revealed the a few blown assignments against Maryland, but no major problems on the line. I'll need to see them in another big game against a big line before making that call, but I do think they'll look better this week.
Dave: Think Geno might try a few run's... seems like Maryland gave him and the Offensive line some issues?
Jenn Menendez: Yes. But I doubt they'll be designed runs. They hinted at going vertical more this week, but also relying on the quick game, and when the quick game isn't there, that's when Geno scrambles. So we'll see...
Alan Gifford: Do you think Dana's mention wanting more from the fans will turn some against him
Jenn Menendez: I think you're talking about a couple of comments he made this week about the Maryland game. He also said the sideline and the coaching staff probably didn't have the right atmosphere. I'm paraphrasing here, as I can't remember the exact quote. But generally I'm not sure it ruffled too many feathers. I think if this team keeps winning, people won't care what he says.
Dave: Do you think Dans has been holding back some of his gameplan in lieu of his first Big 12 match?
Jenn Menendez: Absolutely. Though don't get me wrong. Maryland had a very good defense and that game was all about just taking what they could get. I seriously doubt they were avoiding anything in particular.
But as for this week against Baylor I think we'll see a few new things. In my opinion some of what they've been holding back will be in the vertical game. We really haven't seen much of the long ball at all, and I think that might change Saturday.
Guest: What's your score prediction?
Jenn Menendez: I think the score will be high. This is likely to be the shootout we all imagine it to be, and I'll go with 56-45
Guest: WILL WVU ever sell out its stadium consistently or are the fans truly fair weather fans
Jenn Menendez: Well the Big 12 games sold out really quickly this summer when they first went on sale and the tickets that came back were from the road team allotments. As for the non-conference schedule, I think good opponents will always be the measuring stick for sellouts.
wvfan: Does Geno calls his own plays or are they all from the sidelines?
Jenn Menendez: They come in from the coaching staff, but if a play breaks down, or a receiver is not open then it's all up to him. As far as I know, none of the times he has run the ball this year has been a designed play.
wvfan: How is the scheduling done from year to year and why would someone schedule a bye week after only playing one game?
Jenn Menendez: The schedules are done years in advance and the reason they had a bye week land at such a strange time this year was in order to accommodate switching from the Big East to the Big 12.
Jenn Menendez: That was when they were supposed to play Florida State.
Chris: Any sightings of Mel Kiper or Mike Mayock around? Is Geno going to be a first round pick?
Jenn Menendez: Ha, not that I've seen. Have seen a few national writers chime in on twitter that they're headed to Morgantown this weekend, but no word on those two. Is Geno a first round pick? I'd imagine there are a lot of NFL teams out there who think so.
wvfan: Is geno's ankle ok since he was limping some in the Maryland game?
Jenn Menendez: As far as I know it's fine. He was walking around normally after the game Saturday and again on Tuesday night when he met with the media. We don't see practices, so if there's something going on there it wouldn't necessarily be apparent. But if there was a real problem there I think the demeanor would be different, and he seemed like the same old Geno.
Jenn Menendez: Have time for one or two more.
danks: Thoughts on Daron Roberts and his incredible story?
Jenn Menendez: Very cool story. He's an intelligent guy and clearly could have done many things in his life. It's always refreshing to see someone who is smart, but also works hard for what/where they get in life. He certainly did that and the kids on the team seem to really love him.
Jenn Menendez: To the few regulars I see in the queue, thanks for joining me again. Should be an exciting day on Saturday, I'd anticipate lots of touchdowns and quite a score by the end. Enjoy. See you next week. And in the meantime feel free to reach out: email@example.com or find me on twitter: @JennMenendez
