Pederson was introduced Friday as Pitt's athletic director at a news conference in the Peterson Events Center on campus..
From 1996 to 2002, Pederson served as Pitt's athletic director. He left for the same job at the University of Nebraska, having grown up in that state.
The Nebraska athletic department fired Pederson in October, mostly because his highest profile hire -- football coach Bill Callahan -- didn't work out.
Callahan was fired last week following a disappointing 5-7 season.
