Linebacker James Harrison had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee today to remove an impairment that has caused swelling since the spring.

The surgery went well, according to one Steelers source.

Harrison, a five-time Pro Bowl player and former NFL defensive player of the year, has been on the physically unable to perform list and has not practiced since early last spring because of continued swelling in his knee.

Harrison, 34, has been their starting outside linebacker on the right side of the defense the past five seasons.
