Shaun Suisham kicked a field goal with no time left to lift the Steelers to a 16-14 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles today at Heinz Field.
It was Suisham's third field goal of the day. He is now 8 for 8 this season.
The Steelers improved their record to 2-2. The Eagles are 3-2.
The Eagles came back from a 10-0 halftime deficit to grab a 14-13 lead with 6:33 left in the game on Michael Vick's 2-yard touchdown pass to tight end Brent Celek after a long drive.
The Eagles converted two fourth-down plays on that 17-play, 79-yard drive that consumed 8:18.
The Steelers settled for two field goals after misfiring in their attempts to score touchdowns.
Suisham kicked his second of the day, from 34 yards, after Ben Roethlisberger overthrew Heath Miller, who was wide open at the five. That came early in the fourth quarter and put them on top 13-7.
PG VIDEOPG VIDEOPG VIDEOThe Steelers held a 10-7 lead after Philadelphia drove 80 yards on eight plays to creep within 10-7 on Shady McCoy's 15-yard touchdown catch off a short pass from Vick. That drive included two 15-yard penalties against both Steelers safeties -- Ryan Clark for unnecessary roughness and Ryan Mundy for a helmet-to-helmet hit that replays showed was shoulder-to-shoulder.
Rashard Mendenhall ran 13 yards for a touchdown, and Suisham kicked a 20-yard field goal in the second quarter.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Steelers took a 7-0 lead when Mendenhall took a lateral from Roethlisberger, broke a tackle immediately and ran down the sideline for a 13-yard touchdown.
Before Suisham's field goal, the Steelers blew two chances at scoring a touchdown when Antonio Brown dropped a pass in the end zone and Jerricho Cotchery tripped without being touched at the two after a seven-yard gain.
The first quarter was a costly one for the Steelers, who lost star defenders Troy Polamalu and LaMarr Woodley to injuries. Polamalu, who missed the previous two games with a calf injury, left the game with a calf injury. Woodley, who missed nearly half of the 2011 season with a hamstring injury, left the game with a hamstring injury.
Mundy replaced Polamalu, and Jason Worilds replaced Woodley and sacked Vick in the second quarter.
Penalties, dropped passes and two Vick fumbles were part of a sloppy first quarter.
The Eagles came closest to scoring with a first down at the Steelers' three. But Vick fumbled into the end zone when he was tackled by Clark. Larry Foote recovered for the touchback.
Then, with two seconds left in the quarter, Vick fumbled again when Lawrence Timmons hit him. Foote recovered at the Eagles' 34.
