Two Pittsburgh television stations will air separate interviews with Ben Roethlisberger tonight, the first interviews of any length the Steelers quarterback has given since his offseason troubles began March 5.
Sports anchor Bob Pompeani of KDKA and veteran news anchor Sally Wiggin of WTAE have interviewed Mr. Roethlisberger. The interviews will be televised on their news shows tonight. KDKA will show additional parts of the interview on its evening newscast Friday.
A third local station, WPXI, was not granted an interview by Mr. Roethlisberger, who also has declined requests from various other news outlets, including the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.
Mr. Roethlisberger, consulting with the Steelers and an outside public relations firm, conducted the interviews over several days this week.
Mr. Roethlisberger has answered only two questions publicly since March 5, when a 20-year-old college student alleged the quarterback sexually assaulted her at a Milledgeville, Ga., nightclub. Although investigators in that state did not charge him with a crime, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for the first four to six games of the NFL season.
Mr. Roethlisberger went through behavioral evaluation and rejoined his teammates June 1. He made a statement after practice last Thursday and then answered two questions from a gaggle of reporters.
