Dick Walker, former Steelers assistant coach, dies

Dick Walker, who earned two Super Bowl rings coaching the Steelers' secondary in the 1970s, died today from injuries he received in a car accident last week in Las Vegas.
Walker, 80, who lived in Nevada, coached the Steelers' secondary from 1978 through the 1981 season. The Steelers won Super Bowls during the '78 and '79 seasons.
According to the Columbus Dispatch, Walker died from complications of a broken neck he suffered when his car was hit by another that drove through a red light at an intersection.
Walker played at John Carrol University and went on to coach for Woody Hayes at Ohio State in 1969. With the Steelers, among the players he coached were Pro Football Hall of Famer Mel Blount and former Hall of Fame finalist Donnie Shell.
