Q: What are your thoughts about the free safety competition -- Ryan Clark, Anthony Smith, Tyrone Carter and Ryan Mundy? Is Deshea Townshend in the mix?

BOUCHETTE: Clark has the starting job again. Last season, he alternated with Smith but there are no plans to do that this year. Smith hasn't yet practiced because of a groin pull he said happened when they had their run test on July 27. He tried to practice the next day and could not. Mundy and Carter are competing for a roster spot. Mundy, a sixth-round draft choice from West Virginia, is a smart player who does not have good speed. There's often been talk about Townsend moving to safety, but he has not taken a snap there in this training camp
