Velton Jones leads Robert Morris to win vs. Fairleigh Dickinson

Velton Jones scored 22 points to lead Robert Morris against Fairleigh Dickinson, 67-55, Thursday night, securing a sweep in the season series against the Knights.

Lucky Jones added 16 points and Lijah Thompson had 14 for the Colonials (14-6, 5-2 Northeast Conference), who also beat Fairleigh Dickinson on Dec. 1.

Robert Morris had a 27-26 edge at halftime, but came out strong in the second and outscored Fairleigh Dickinson, 40-29, in the final 20 minutes to clinch the win.

The Colonials won the rebounding battle 32-28, while outscoring the Knights 26-18 in the paint.

Robert Morris also outscored FDU, 21-8, on second-chance points.

Melquan Bolding led the Knights (1-17, 0-7) with 15 points.

Fairleigh Dickinson is on a 14-game losing slide, the Knights' most recent win coming Nov. 18 against Saint Peter's, a 4-15 team.

The difference in the game came down to the free-throw line where the Colonials made 20 of 25 including a perfect 12 of 12 in the second half.

The Knights made only 10 of 16 from the line and only 3 of 8 in the second half including a crucial miss of the front end of a one-and-one when they had a 52-51 lead with 5:45 left in the game.

RMU also forced the Knights into 18 turnovers and scored 25 points off FDU's miscues.

The Knights only scored eight points off 11 Colonials turnovers.
