Robert Morris' Cody Wydo scored an early power-play goal, but fourth-seeded host Connecticut rallied for four consecutive goals Friday night to down the fifth-seeded Colonials, 4-1, in the first game of their best-of-three Atlantic Hockey Association quarterfinal playoff series.
The second game will be played tonight with Game 3, if needed, Sunday. All games will be played in Storrs, Conn.
Wydo's goal was his 14th this season, and it came at the 11-minute mark, but the lead lasted less than three minutes.
Connecticut tied the score at 13:16 on Brant Harris' power-play goal, then took the lead at 4:55 of the second on a goal by Joey Ferriss.
It took just 50 seconds for the Huskies (18-13-4) to widen the lead as Alex Gerke's goal made it 3-1, and Evan Carriere's empty-net goal at 18:53 of the third wrapped up the scoring.
The loss dropped the Colonials record to 20-13-4.
Goalie Matt Grogan (13-3-3) stopped 19 shots for Connecticut and Eric Levine (19-11-4) turned away 20 for Robert Morris.
