Central Connecticut tops Robert Morris, 77-70

With the teams heading into their game against each other a combined 0-6 going back to Dec. 20, the basketball teams at Robert Morris and Central Connecticut State were in desperate need of a win, or at the very least, some positive momentum.
And with each team just beginning Northeast Conference play, where the games carry a greater meaning, something going their way could be what starts a run and changes a season.
Kyle Vinables, one of the more explosive scorers in Division I basketball, scored 34 points, helping lead Central Connecticut State to a 77-70 victory Saturday at the Charles Sewall Center over host Robert Morris, which has lost a season-high three consecutive games.
The Colonials' (8-7, 0-2 NEC) struggles have come on the heels of a five-game win streak, another season high.
Guard Velton Jones led Robert Morris with 22 points and four assists, and guard Karvel Anderson added 15 points.
After the loss to the Blue Devils (5-8, 1-1 NEC), the Colonials will look to rebound Jan. 10 at Fairleigh Dickinson, which is 6-8 on the season.
