Linebacker Gerald Hodges was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week, giving Penn State the honor for the second week in a row and third time this season.

Hodges had 11 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble and two pass breakups in the Nittany Lions' 39-28 victory over Northwestern. It is third time Hodges has been honored as the defensive player of the week in his career.

Linebacker Michael Mauti won the award last week and in September after Penn State's victory against Navy.

The quarterfinalists for the Lombardi Award, given to the nation's best linebacker or lineman, were announced today.

Four Big Ten players were nominated -- Michigan State's William Gholston, Ohio State's Johnathan Hankins, Purdue's Kawann Short and Wisconsin's Chris Borland -- but neither Mauti nor Hodges received a nomination.
