The Nittany Lions' quarterback shortage notion is no more. Quarterbacks Austin Whipple and D.J. Crook will walk on at Penn State and enroll this spring, according to reports from the recruiting website Lions247. Whipple, who is 6 feet 2, 200 pounds, attended the Salisbury School, a prep school in Connecticut. Crook attended Worcester Academy, a prep school in Massachusetts. According to stats from ESPN.com, Crook threw for 77 touchdowns and more than 8,000 yards at Barnstable High. Crook and Whipple join College of the Sequoias quarterback Tyler Ferguson as new additions to the roster. Before Ferguson committed Friday, the Nittany Lions had one quarterback, Steven Bench, on their roster for spring practices.

The additions provide more options for coach Bill O'Brien, who was named one of six finalists for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year award. Other finalists are Ohio State's Urban Meyer, Vanderbilt's James Franklin, Stanford's David Shaw, Texas A&M's Kevin Sumlin and Kansas State's Bill Snyder.
