Linemen pick Penn State
Share with others:
Penn State received verbal commitments from two defensive tackles this past weekend. Austin Johnson, from St. Augustine's Prep in Richland, N.J., and Derek Dowrey, from Handley High school in Winchester, Va., committed to join the Nittany Lions.
That pushes the number of recruits in the Class of 2012 to 10, and includes four defensive tackles. Neither Augustine (6 feet 4, 277 pounds) nor Dowrey (6-3, 300) were rated by Scout.com or Rivals.com.
Johnson, a two-way lineman, had scholarship offers from Boston College, Rutgers, Syracuse, Villanova and Tulane, according to Lions247.com, a recruiting website.
Dowrey, who had 10 1/2 sacks last season while playing nose guard, had offers from West Virginia, East Carolina, Ohio and Richmond.
