Penn State announced on Monday that acting athletic director Dave Joyner would be the school's athletic director until university president Rodney Erickson's term ends in June 2014, confirming what Joyner and Erickson have often said since Joyner took over as acting athletic director in late 2011.

In November 2011, Joyner replaced athletic director Tim Curley, who faces charges for his involvement in the Jerry Sandusky child sexual abuse scandal. A former offensive lineman and wrestler for Penn State, Joyner was a member of the Board of Trustees from 2000 until he accepted a position within the athletic department.

Fans have not always approved of Joyner's tenure. Earlier this month, rumors swirled regarding Joyner's relationship with football coach Bill O'Brien. Both have said their relationship was on solid footing.
