J.J. Moore, the highest rated of Pitt's three incoming freshman basketball players, received some good news from the NCAA Clearinghouse Monday. He was cleared to play the upcoming season, ending months of doubt while he finished his high school education at South Kent Prep in Connecticut.

Moore, rated the No. 8 small forward in the country by Scout.com, enrolled at Pitt Monday morning. Cameron Wright, a freshman shooting guard from Cleveland, also enrolled at Pitt Monday. Isaiah Epps, the other incoming freshman, will not enroll at Pitt until August as he finishes up some course work at a prep school this summer.

Pitt coach Jamie Dixon said he is "very confident" that Epps will qualify as well.

To make room for Moore, Dwight Miller transferred to Midland Junior College in Texas. Miller played sparingly for the Panthers last season after taking a redshirt in 2008-09.

Of the incoming freshmen, Moore is the player who has the best chance of cracking a rotation that has seven of the top eight scorers from last season returning. He is looking forward to the opportunity of living up to his advanced billing.

"I'm just going to show them that I am a top 10 player," Moore said Monday night. "I never in my life would have dreamed that I would be top 10 material. Now I'm just going to show them that I've gone up to that level."

Senior Brad Wanamaker played small forward last season, but he should see more time at shooting guard this season because of Jermaine Dixon's graduation. That potential move could free some playing time at small forward behind another senior, Gilbert Brown.

Moore and Brown share a lot in common. They both attended South Kent Prep and play similar games.
