Pitt makes history with 89-40 win against Bethune-Cookman

Freshman center Steven Adams notched the first double-double of his career to lead Pitt past Bethune-Cookman, 89-40, at the Petersen Events Center. The 49-point margin was the largest in the history of the Petersen Events Center.
Adams had 16 points and 10 rebounds for his first double figure scoring game since the Panthers beat Delaware on Nov. 23. Adams was 7 for 10 from the field and 2 for 3 from the free-throw line.
Reserve forward J.J. Moore scored a team-high 18 points, and Talib Zanna and Lamar Patterson each scored 11 points.
Bethune-Cookman was able to stay close for the first 15 minutes of the game. Pitt led by just five with a little more than five minutes remaining before halftime before closing the half on a 16-1 run to take a 44-24 lead at the intermission.
Moore had 14 points in the first half for the Panthers, who shot 59 percent from the field and outscored the Wildcats, 22-8, in the lane.
The Panthers held the Wildcats to 34 percent shooting in the first half and held a 22-6 advantage on the backboards.
The Panthers dominated the beginning of the second half the way they did at the end of the first half. They held the Wildcats without a field goal for the first 4:32 and took an insurmountable 56-28 lead after an Adams basket.
