Pitt loses three for year with injuries

Pitt's 47-17 win over Temple Saturday may have been one of its most impressive of the season, but it came at a fairly significant cost.
Pitt coach Paul Chryst announced Monday that three players -- linebackers Dan Mason and Manny Williams and offensive lineman Ryan Schlieper -- would miss the rest of the season with injuries.
Williams suffered an ACL injury against Louisville three weeks ago, and Chryst said he tried at first to rehab it to return this year, but ultimately had to have surgery.
Schlieper was hurt early in the second half of the win against Temple, and had to have foot surgery. Arthur Doakes will likely take his place at right guard.
Mason returned earlier this season after missing two years with a knee injury, but lacerated his liver making a tackle late in the Temple game. Chryst said he is healing normally, and was optimistic that he could return for spring practice next year.
