Pitt football: Panthers fall to Connecticut 24-17

EAST HARTFORD, Conn. -- Pitt's season of almost inexplicable ups and downs continued Friday night with a 24-17 loss to Connecticut.
Just one week after going toe-to-toe with No. 4 Notre Dame, the Panthers lost to a team that was winless in the Big East entering Friday night.
The Huskies (4-6, 1-4 Big East), who averaged just 16.6 points per game entering the contest, put up 345 total yards against the Panthers (3-6, 1-4 Big East).
Pitt's offense, meanwhile, never got any momentum going. Quarterback Tino Sunseri completed 19 of 34 for 302 yards and one touchdown but he was sacked three times. The Panthers ran for a total of 48 yards, with Ray Graham gaining 41 yards on 15 carries.
Now, Pitt must win both of its final games -- against Rutgers at home and at South Florida -- if it is to reach six wins and bowl eligibility.
The Panthers have an open week this week, and return to action Nov. 24 against the Scarlet Knights.
