Pittsburgh police have filed driving under the influence charges against University of Pittsburgh basketball player Trey Zeigler stemming from an incident Sunday.

Online court records show Mr. Zeigler, whose legal name is Ernest F. Zeigler III, will be charged by mail summons with two misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence. Details of the arrest were not immediately available.

The 21-year-old junior transferred this year from Central Michigan University, where he played under his father, Ernie Zeigler. The elder Zeigler was fired in March, prompting his son to make the move. Transfers are not typically eligible to play their first year, but the NCAA granted a special waiver to Trey Zeigler that would allow him to play this year because of the unusual circumstances.

Mr. Zeigler, who stands at 6 feet 5 inches and plays shooting guard, has averaged a little more than six points a game in the Panthers' nascent season.

A spokesman for the university athletics department could not be immediately reached.
