Punishment for players
Three players charged with simple assault in the fall will perform community service in exchange for a reduced charge.
Ray Graham, 22, ; Lafayette Pitts, 20, ; and Devin Street, 21; each were charged with one count of simple assault and one count of criminal conspiracy after police said they surrounded a man in Oakland in November and one of them punched him in the head.
They were not arrested but received a summons by mail telling them to appear in court today for a preliminary hearing.
Their attorney, Mark Fiorilli, said if the men complete the hours -- 40 hours for Street and 20 hours each for Pitts and Graham -- they likely will face only disorderly conduct charges, a summary offense.
The three are scheduled to return to court in April to report their progress.
Fiorilli did not have details on the community service.
