Clairton standout Boyd says Pitt is it

While the Pitt football team was losing its bowl game Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, Ala., the Panthers got some good news from a different kind of bowl in San Antonio.
Clairton High School star Tyler Boyd, the Post-Gazette Player of the Year, announced he will play next season at Pitt. Boyd was in San Antonio playing in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl all-star game, which included top high school players around the country.
At the game, he announced his college choice live on NBC television.
Boyd started at wide receiver for the East in a 15-8 victory against the West. He caught one pass for 4 yards.
Landing Boyd is a big catch for Pitt. He ended up as the fifth-leading rusher in WPIAL history, but was recruited to play receiver. He also was considering Penn State, West Virginia, Michigan State, Tennessee and Rutgers. Pitt also has landed Clairton receiver-defensive back Titus Howard and likely will get Clairton receiver-defensive back Terrish Webb.
"Probably within the last week, I decided on Pitt," Boyd said.
"Just from the fact that some of my boys will be down there. My step brother [former Allderdice lineman Tyrique Jarrett] will be there next year.
"Plus I want to help build something there. Pitt has kind of fallen off a little bit, and I just want to help things out and do it in my hometown."
Strangely, though, Boyd said he probably still will make recruiting visits to Michigan State and Tennessee in the next few weeks.
