The Pirates on Monday announced the details of their 2011 promotional schedule and ticket pricing, with a slight increase in prices for tickets that are bought the same day of the game.
It is the first price increase of any kind for Pirates tickets in nine years.
The Pirates will offer special priced tickets for kids for the second consecutive season.
The higher ticket prices will not affect season ticket buyers, group ticket buyers or individual ticket buyers who purchase their tickets prior to the day of the game. Advanced tickets, which include tickets purchased prior to 12:01 a.m. on the day of a home game, will be priced between $2 to $5 per ticket less than the day of game price.
For instance, an outfield reserved seat that sells for $17, will be $20 if purchased on the day of a game.
In terms of promotions, a major promotional highlight will be the 40th anniversary celebration of the 1971 World Series championship team, as the Pirates play host to the Baltimore Orioles for a three-game series June 20-22. The Pirates defeated the Orioles in the 1971 World Series.
The 2011 promotional schedule also includes items such as an Andrew McCutchen action figurine on April 23, a Neil Walker bobblehead on May 21 and a youth Pedro Alvarez replica batting practice jersey June 5.
The promotional schedule also includes three Skyblast fireworks nights:
• Skyblast I on June 11 will feature a soon-to-be-announced performing artist after the Pirates play the New York Mets.
• Southern Rock group .38 Special will be the feature performer for Skyblast II on July 9 after the Pirates host the Chicago Cubs.
• Skyblast III will feature live music from two-time Grammy Award-winning band Train on Aug. 6 following the Pirates' game with the San Diego Padres.
In addition to the Skyblast concert and fireworks series, on Sept. 24, the Pirates will host the new Fan Jam, featuring the Steve Miller Band after the game against the Cincinnati Reds.
The Pirates also announced a new promotion called Free-Shirt Fridays, which will feature a different Pirates themed T-shirt giveaway at all 13 Friday home games this season and a tailgate with live music on Federal Street prior to the games.
