The Pirates recalled right-handed reliever Jared Hughes to the active roster for today's doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies.

Hughes is the 26th man on the team's active roster -- one more than typically allowed by Major League Baseball rules. The 26th man exception for doubleheaders was added when the league and the players' union reached a new collective bargaining agreement prior to this season.

Hughes was optioned to Class AAA Indianapolis late last week and must be removed from the active roster by the end of the day today, unless the Pirates put a player on the disabled list.

The Rockies also recalled a 26th man, right-handed reliever Zach Putnam.
