The Pirates have placed outfielder Alex Presley on the seven-day disabled list, retroactive to Tuesday, with concussion-like symptoms, manager Clint Hurdle said this afternoon.

The Pirates recalled infielder Jordy Mercer to take Presley's spot on the active roster.

Presley left the Pirates' 8-7 victory against the Astros Tuesday a few innings after sustaining the injury while making a diving attempt on a fly ball. He is not eligible to return to the active roster until after the All-Star break.

Major League Baseball created the seven-day disabled list last season specifically for concussions and head injuries.
