Outfielder Gregory Polanco and infielder Dilson Herrera earned player of the year honors in their respective leagues.

Polanco was named the Topps player of the year in the Low-Class A South Atlantic League on Monday. Polanco, who played for the West Virginia Power, hit .325 with 16 home runs 85 RBIs and 40 stolen bases.

Polanco, 21, signed for $175,000 as an international free agent in 2009. After struggling for two seasons, Polanco blossomed in West Virginia this season, making mechanical adjustments that made him more productive at the plate.

Herrera was named a Topps player of the year in the Gulf Coast League. Herrera, 18, hit .281 seven home runs and 27 RBIs. The GCL Pirates won the league championship.
