Pirates: Cutting Nady not considered

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Pirates yesterday denied that they have considered cutting ties with outfielder Xavier Nady if they cannot trade him.
A high-ranking team official, responding to a report in the Post-Gazette yesterday to the contrary, stated emphatically that management never has discussed, nor has any plans to decline to offer an arbitration contract to Nady by Major League Baseball's Dec. 12 deadline. Any player non-tendered by that date becomes a free agent.
Nady batted .278 with 20 home runs and 72 RBIs last season, and his salary was $2.15 million. Arbitration likely will raise that beyond $3 million in 2008.
