Pirates cut 11 from major-league roster including Sands, Taillon

BRADENTON, Fla. -- The Pirates removed 11 players from major league spring training this morning, Jameson Taillon and Jerry Sands among them.

The team optioned Sands, right-handers Vic Black, Stolmy Pimentel, Hunter Strickland and Duke Welker to Class AAA Indianapolis, along with first baseman Clint Robinson.

They also re-assigned Taillon, right-hander Erik Cordier, infielders Matt Hague and Anderson Hernandez, and outfielder Darren Ford to minor league camp.

The Pirates now have 51 players in major league camp.
