Pirates starter A.J. Burnett was named the National League Player of the Week, the team announced this afternoon.
Burnett was 2-0 and allowed two earned runs in 17 2/3 innings -- pitching one complete game and coming one out shy of another. He earned his 13th and 14th wins of the season, tied for the most in the major leagues this season.
He allowed four hits in the two games combined.
Both of Burnett's victories came following Pirate losses. He is 7-1 this season when pitching after a Pirate loss.
He is the first Pirates pitcher to earn the award since Jeff Karstens claimed the honor in July 2011.
