Pirates activate Jordy Mercer from paternity list, option Daniel McCutchen

The Pirates activated Jordy Mercer from the paternity list today and made official the move to option Daniel McCutchen to Class AAA Indianapolis.

McCutchen had returned to Indianapolis on Thursday night.

The move balanced the roster, bringing the number of bench players to five. Kevin Correia will return to the bullpen as the Pirates return to a five-man rotation.

McCutchen appeared in one game and allowed a walk-off home run to the San Diego Padres' Chase Headley.
