HOUSTON -- Pirates leadoff batter Starling Marte hit a home run in his first career at-bat tonight at Minute Maid Park.

A highly touted outfield prospect in the minor leagues, Marte swung at the first pitch he saw -- an 86-mph cutter from Houston pitcher Dallas Keuchel -- and drove it over the wall in left-centerfield to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.

He became the first Pirate since Don Leppert on June 18, 1961, to hit a home run in his first career at-bat.

Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer later in the inning to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.
