The Pirates signed right-handed reliever Kyle Waldrop to a one-year, minor league contract Tuesday, which includes an invitation to spring training and a chance to compete for the major league roster.

Waldrop, 27, was selected in the first round of the 2004 amateur draft by the Minnesota Twins, the only team for whom he has played in his professional career. After starting 2012 on the disabled list with a right elbow strain, Waldrop went 0-1 with a 2.57 ERA in 17 appearances with the Twins.

In 24 career appearances, Waldrop is 1-1 with a 3.62 ERA. In eight seasons in the minor leagues, Waldrop went 45-42 with a 3.60 ERA.
