Staal rejects 10-year deal from Penguins

Center Jordan Staal, who has one year remaining on his contract, has rejected a 10-year deal proposed by the Penguins.
Financial terms of the proposal are not known, and it is not clear when Staal turned it down.
Paul Krepelka, who represents Staal, would say only that "Jordan is not prepared to enter into a contract extension at this time."
The rejection does not mean Staal is committed to leaving the Penguins when his contract expires in 2013, or even before.
Rather, it is seen as evidence that Staal still wants to keep his options open, and possibly that he has reservations about making a decade-long commitment..
General manager Ray Shero has made it clear that he hopes to re-sign Staal, and that while teams have inquired about Staal, the Penguins are not soliciting offers for him.
That does not figure to change until Staal tells the Penguins that he will not re-sign with them, which he has not done.
Staal contract has a salary-cap hit of $4 million.
