Rookie Grant is injured

LONDON, Ontario -- Penguins prospect Alex Grant was hospitalized after being injured in a rookie tournament game at the John Labatt Centre Saturday.
General manager Ray Shero said Grant, whose neck and extremities were immobilized by medical personnel before he was removed from the ice, underwent a Magnetic Resonance Imaging examination, X-rays and other tests to determine what, if any, damage he had received to his neck, back and wrist.
Results of those examinations were not immediately known.
Shero described the tests, as well as the way Grant was handled while he was on the ice, as primarily "a precaution."
Grant, a defenseman, was hurt at 2:22 of the opening period in the Penguins' 5-3 victory against Ottawa when David Dziurzynski of the Senators drove him into the boards with a hit from behind. Dziurzynski received a major penalty for boarding and a game-misconduct.
Grant, 21, was a fourth-round draft choice in 2007.
