Penguins fall to Flyers, 6-5

The Penguins' three-game winning streak came to an end and they fell to 3-4 at home with a 6-5 loss to the rival Philadelphia Flyers tonight at Consol Energy Center.
The Penguins took a 2-0 lead, but the Flyers tied it before the end of the first period.
Matt Niskanen made it 1-0 at 5:07 of the first period on a blast from the center point. Kris Letang had taken a shot from above the right circle. It was blocked by Philadelphia's Claude Giroux, but the puck ricocheted directly to Niskanen.
At 7:15 of the first period, Evgeni Malkin gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead with a power-play goal. Paul Martin, from the right point, fired a pass off the end boards and to Malkin, who slipped the puck inside the left post.
Malkin now has at least one point in 11 games in a row against the Flyers. The goal was his fourth this season and first in six games.
Nicklas Grossmann pulled Philadelphia to within 2-1 at 11:49 of the first period by flipping the puck over a pile of players who were sprawled in the crease and, in the case of Letang, in the net. Letang had dived into the net and pushed out an earlier shot that came to rest on, but not over, the goal line.
Philadelphia tied it, 2-2, at 12:49 of the first period when Wayne Simmonds directed the puck around sprawled goaltender Tomas Vokoun and past his left skate.
There was a fight -- between Simmonds and the Penguins' Tanner Glass -- and seven minor penalties in the first period.
The Flyers got a power-play goal with 9.9 seconds left in the second period for a 3-2 lead. A rebound got deflected away from the net and came floating over to Jakub Voracek, who punched it past a diving Vokoun.
Simmonds got an assist, giving him a so-called Gordie Howe hat trick with a goal, an assist and a fight.
Voracek struck again just 18 seconds into the third period for a 4-2 Flyers lead. He scored into an open net following a scramble in front that left Vokoun on his belly
Tyler Kennedy got his second goal of the season to bring the Penguins to within 4-3 at 5:29 of the third period. He got a rebound and turned for quick shot from beneath the right hash marks.
Philadelphia answered to make it 5-3 at 7:06 of the third period when Simmonds' shot from the left circle deflected in off of Niskanen's stick.
James Neal scored on a one-timer of a pass from Evgeni Malkin during a Penguins five-on-three power play to make it 5-4 at 12:46 of the third period.
At 14:21, still on a five-on-three advantage, Chris Kunitz put the puck in from in front, but the goal was overturned because it was ruled that Kunitz kicked the puck in.
The tying goal that stood came at 17:57 of the third period. Brandon Sutter brought the puck from behind the Philadelphia net and batted it in to make it 5-5.
But the Flyers took a 6-5 lead when Voracek completed a hat trick on a shot from deep that trickled in off of Vokoun at 18:29.
The Penguins next play Friday at home against Florida, the second of a three-game homestand.
