The Penguins recalled defensemen Simon Despres and Brian Strait from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League.
The team is off today, and it was not immediately known whether they will be in the lineup Tuesday for a home game against the New York Islanders.
The Penguins played Sunday's 5-2 win over New Jersey without defenseman Matt Niskanen, who has an undisclosed injury. During that game, defenseman Ben Lovejoy left in the first period with what might have been a knee injury. Defenseman Kris Letang left the game for several minutes but returned.
Despres, 20, has played 16 games for the Penguins this season, with a power-play goal and three assists. Strait, 24, has no points in four NHL games this season.
