The Edmonton Oilers and defenseman Andy Sutton have agreed to terms on a one-year contract extension.

The 36-year-old has appeared in 33 games with the Oilers this season, collecting 3 goals, 6 assists and 56 penalty minutes.

Sutton, 6 feet 6, 245 pounds, was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks last summer.

In 657 career games with San Jose, Minnesota, Atlanta, Ottawa, Edmonton and the New York Islanders, Sutton has 149 points (38 goals, 111 assists) and 1,161 penalty minutes.

Sutton has been suspended twice this season for a total of 13 games for separate illegal hits to the head of an opponent.

He is making $2.125 million this season.

Flyers

The NHL suspended Philadelphia forward Zac Rinaldo for two games for launching to hit Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson on Sunday. Rinaldo received a minor penalty for charging following the incident at 13:25 of the first period. The Red Wings went on to win 4-3 to match an NHL record with their 20th consecutive home victory. Detroit can break the record with a win tonight against the Dallas Stars at Joe Louis Arena.

Wild

Minnesota recalled defenseman Marco Scandella and forward Kris Foucault from the AHL. The move was made when roster spots opened when forward Brad Staubitz was sent to the Houston Aeros and defenseman Clayton Stoner was put on injured reserve with a lower body injury last week.
