Members of the NHL Players' Association voted to ratify the new collective bargaining agreement, another step in moving toward the end of the lockout.
The players voted electronically over 36 hours, ending this morning.
The next step is for the players and the owners to each sign off on a memorandum or agreement, which is legally binding. That could happen any time. At that point, the NHL would be back in business, with training camps expected to open Sunday and the season next Saturday. Teams also could make roster moves, including trades.
Signing the MOU also will allow teams to announce their 48-game schedule. The Penguins are expected to open next Saturday afternoon at Philadelphia.
