NHL cancels more games for lockout; 42.8 percent of the season tossed

The National Hockey League has cancelled another round of games because of the labor dispute that has shut down the league since mid-September.
Games through Dec. 30 have been cancelled, bringing the total lost to the lockout to 526, 42.8 percent of the regular season.
If the dispute is resolved -- negotiations are expected to resume this week, but none have been arranged yet -- there will be a shortened season, with the schedule redone and likely limited to intra-conference games.
At this point, the primary benefit to publicly announcing cancellations is that it enables arenas that are home to NHL clubs to take dates that had been set aside for hockey games and try to book other events.
