The NHL today canceled another week of the 2012-13 schedule, though Nov. 1, because of the ongoing lockout.

The league previously scratched the first two weeks of the season because of the labor dispute.

The Penguins were to have played nine games over the three weeks that have now been canceled. The NHL has said that if the dispute can be resolved by late next week, a condensed but full 82-game season could start Nov. 2, and has carefully worded its news releases to say the schedule, rather than games, were being canceled.

The league and its Players' Association exchanged proposals on a new collective bargaining agreement this week, but no further talks are scheduled.
