FIRST PERIOD SUMMARY
7:10 of ice time on seven shifts. Four shots, one goal, one assist. 5 for 7 in faceoffs.
14:36: Sidney Crosby takes a pass in the neutral zone from Pascal Dupuis and moves into the offensive zone, dodging a stick check from a trailing left winger Jay Pandolfo, weaves past defenseman MacDonald in the right circle and roofs a backhander past the glove hand of Islanders goaltender Anders Nilsson to give the Penguins a 1-0 lead.
10:01: Islanders defenseman Milan Jurcina is called for cross-checking Crosby near the right-wing corner in the Islanders zone. Crosby is fine and the Penguins get a power play.
3:31: Dupuis dives at the blue line to keep a puck in the offensive zone. Crosby reclaims it in the right circle and deals a backhanded pass to Orpik at the top of the slot. Orpik winds up and blasts a slapshot past Nilsson's blocker for a 2-0 lead.
SECOND PERIOD SUMMARY
4:31 of ice time on eight shifts. Two shots, one assist. 6 for 10 in faceoffs.
16:43: On a power play, Crosby launches a one-timer from above the right circle. Two Islanders challenge the shot and tumble trying to block it. Crosby recovers the puck and passes to Letang above the left circle, who fires a one-timer wide on the near side. But Evgeni Malkin is down low and controls the puck before tucking it behind the right leg of Nilsson for a 3-0 lead.
9:30: Crosby take a pass in the slot and backhands it to Chris Kunitz cutting into the crease. Kuntiz, though, doesn't handle the pass cleanly and kicks it to the left-wing corner. Crosby follows up on the rebound and whips it at the net. Nilsson is able to stretch to his right and punch it out with his blocker.
THIRD PERIOD SUMMARY
4:13 of ice time on six shifts. Two shots, one goal. 3 for 4 in faceoffs.
17:54: Crosby hustles after a loose puck behind the goal, and, despite getting knocked down by Jurcina, moves it along the left-wing boards. After reversing direction, he snaps a fluttering backhander, which glances off the left thigh of Islanders defenseman Steve Staios and floats past Nilsson's glove hand for a 5-0 lead.
12:04: Crosby nearly gets a hat trick. Kunitz snaps off a wrister from the left circle, and Nilsson makes the save. But the puck rebounds to the right, where Crosby tries to knock it in but can't make contact with the puck.
2:24: Crosby deals a pass from the right of the Islanders net for Malkin approaching in the left circle. Malkin snaps off a shot which Nilsson blocks.
