NEW YORK -- Penguins owner Mario Lemieux sent shock waves around the NHL Sunday with his scathing critique of the league's handling of supplemental discipline stemming from his team's 9-3 loss to the New York Islanders Friday night at Nassau Coliseum.

Most of the Penguins, though, either professed no knowledge of Lemieux's statement or declined to comment on it after their 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden.

"I didn't pay any attention to that," defenseman Kris Letang said. "I was getting ready for a game."

Forward Craig Adams said he was aware of Lemieux's remarks, but shied away from discussing them.

"It's Mario's deal," he said. "I'm not going to comment on it. That's, I guess, what we're saying as a team. It's up to him. Nobody else. It's what Mario thinks, and obviously, we have a lot of respect for him."

Defenseman Brooks Orpik was one of the few who would offer an observation on what Lemieux said, and it is not likely he alienated anyone in ownership with his take on the situation.

"I couldn't agree more," Orpik said. "I thought he was right on."
