The NHL has fined New York Rangers coach John Tortorella $20,000 for "comments" Thursday following his team's 5-2 loss to the Penguins at Consol Energy Center.

The league did not specify what comments, but Tortorella ripped Penguins defenseman Brooks Orpik for a hit and kneeing major penalty against Derek Stepan and went on to rip the Penguins.

"It's a cheap, dirty hit," Tortorella said. "I wonder what would happen if we did it to their two whining stars over there. I wonder what would happen. Just no respect amongst players. None. It's sickening."

Tortorella added that the Penguins are "one of the most arrogant organizations in the league. They whine about this stuff all the time and look at what happens. ... It's ridiculous. But they'll whine about something else over there, won't they? Starting with their two [expletive] stars."

Those presumably are Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin.

This fine comes less than a week after Flyers coach Peter Laviolette was fined $10,000 for his tantrum on the bench during his team's 6-4 win over the Penguins. Penguins assistant Tony Granato got fined $2,500.
