The New Jersey Devils completed a weekend sweep over the Penguins with a 3-1 win tonight at Consol Energy Center.
David Clarkson gave New Jersey a 1-0 lead at 13:06 of the first period when he ripped a high shot past Penguins goaltender Tomas Vokoun off of a two-on-two break.
A wrist shot by Ilya Kovalchuk from the left circle on a two-on-one break gave the Devils a 2-0 lead at 11:27 of the second period.
In a 3-1 loss Saturday at New Jersey, the Penguins were shorthanded 10 times and gave up two power-play goals. Tonight, the Devils did not get a power play until the Penguins' James Neal was called for cross-checking Steve Bernier at 12:09 of the second period.
New Jersey capitalized for a 3-0 lead. Clarkson scored his second goal of the game on the ensuing power play. A rebound of a shot from the right point by Patrik Elias came to rest in the crease, and Clarkson tapped it in on his backhand at 13:20.
Neal got some redemption when he blasted a shot from the right dot for a power-play goal 15 seconds into the third period to cut the Devils' lead to 3-1.
The Penguins' next game is Wednesday night at home against Ottawa.
