Penguins defenseman Matt Niskanen will miss tonight's home game against the New York Islanders and could be out two to four weeks, coach Dan Bylsma said.

Niskanen was seen wearing an orthopedic boot outside the team locker room at Consol Energy Center. It's believed he sustained an ankle injury in the first period of Sunday's 2-1 shootout win at Ottawa.

Bylsma declined to say who would play in Niskanen's place but might have tipped his hand when he said Simon Despres is capable of replacing Niskanen on the second power-play unit.
