Balsillie: Restarting deal is possible

Jim Balsillie is not necessarily out of the running to buy the Penguins.
"All it takes is three willing parties and a five-minute phone call to get this restarted," Balsillie said last night, referring to him, the Penguins and the NHL.
The Canadian billionaire signed a purchase agreement Oct. 4 but terminated the agreement Friday. Balsillie declined to confirm that he had reached a stalemate with the NHL over last-minute stipulations.
Balsillie said he had the right to pull out because, as of last Tuesday, the purchase agreement was still in play but no longer was binding.
"The sellers had an express right to extend the deal for 30 days. They expressly waived that right," he said.
Balsillie said he was aware of various sentiments toward him, but said, "I bear no ill will toward anyone in this process."
Penguins officials could not be reached for comment.
