Snowshoe is calling it The Ballhooter, a four-day "music and college party celebration" March 8-11 that it hopes to make an annual event. A ballhooter is a logging term used to describe a lumberjack who rolls logs down a mountain.
"For 361 days out of the year we pride ourselves on being the most family-focused mountain resort in the region," said David Dekema, resort marketing director.
"But for these four days we concede that college kids on campuses all around our region need a good and affordable sanity break with the chance to blow off a little steam." According to the resort, the event will feature free live music nightly by "trip-hop" artist MiMOSA, plus indie up-and-comers Good Old War, The Dirty Guv'Nahs and Boombox.
There also will be a beach party sponsored by Captain Morgan, live comedy shows, on-snow games, video contests, race and terrain park competitions and other activities.
The resort is offering a college spring break special VIP package for $349 per person that includes three nights lodging, a three-day lift ticket, meals and entrance to ticketed and VIP events and competitions.
