Kennedy native Krug goes for Olympic bronze medal in diving but finishes 7th

LONDON -- When Kennedy native Cassidy Krug stepped onto the 3-meter springboard for her last dive of the Olympic final Sunday night, she did not know that she was in fourth place, needing a dive of at least 75.51 to win a bronze medal.
Krug, 27, a graduate of Montour High, had a feeling she had done well enough to be in the running, though, and even that was enough to get her more charged up than usual. She felt the pressure of an entire life's work coming down to one plunge into the pool, and it showed in her dive.
Krug didn't enter the water vertically and was given a 55.50, which placed her in seventh with a five-dive total of 342.85. Mexico's Laura Sanchez Soto, who scored a 75.00 on the same final dive as Krug, took the bronze with 362.40.
"I said going into this that I wanted to do my dives like I know I can do them, and for the first four dives, I did that, and I'm really proud of that," Krug said. "For the last one, I wanted to hit that dive so badly. I wanted to go out with nines, and I was visualizing it, going over it in my head, and in actuality it just didn't happen."
The top two spots were taken by China's Wu Minxia (414.00) and Zi He (379.20).
