Volunteers needed for local cycling events

Volunteers are being sought for four upcoming cycling events:
• The GNC Pittsburgh Triathlon & Adventure Race July 27-29.
• The Mount Davis Challenge Aug. 4.
• Pedal Pittsburgh Aug. 5.
• The BikeFest Fundraiser Kickoff Main Party Aug.10.
The triathlon has international and sprint distance triathlon courses, as well as an adventure race course that replaces the swim portion with a two-mile kayak or canoe race. It will be at North Shore Riverfront Park. An event expo will be on July 27, followed but the sprint course (July 28, 6:45 a.m.), adventure race (July 28, 7:15 a.m.) and international distance (July 29, 6:45 a.m.).
Piranha Sports will donate $25 per person to nonprofit organizations that provide volunteers for the triathlon. Use the drop down menu on the registration page to select an organization.

The Mount Davis Challenge, a 42-mile road race up, over and around the highest point in Pennsylvania, needs volunteers to control traffic at intersections, staff water stations and assist at the finish line.
The rain-or-shine event, sponsored by the Confluence Tourism Association, is sanctioned by USA Cycling.

Volunteers for Pedal Pittsburgh will receive a free VIP admission valued at $100 to the event's festival at the SouthSide Works.
The VIP admission includes a shirt, breakfast and lunch prepared by Whole Foods and access to the VIP tent where massages will be provided by Massage Envy. It also includes a free beer garden, free photo booth and BMX demonstration.
"[The volunteers] also will receive our endless love and admiration," said Scott Bricker, executive director of Bike Pittsburgh.
From July 28 to Aug. 3, volunteers will pedal the route of each ride to mark potholes, sewer grates and other hazards.
On Aug. 4, volunteers will work in four-hour shifts beginning at 11 a.m. to help vendors set up their stations, carry food and water, distribute packets to riders and sign up participants.
Beginning at 5 a.m. Aug. 5, volunteers will work in four-hour shifts to serve as marshals to direct riders along the course and assist police with road closures on the South Side. They'll also help with registration, parking and provide water and snacks at rest stops and aid stations.
Some will be stationed at an outreach table to interact with participants Others will staff a children's area. A few will control access to the VIP tent. They will also help clean up.
Volunteers for the BikeFest Fundraiser Kickoff Main Party Aug. 10 at the Pittsburgh Opera in the Strip District will receive a free admission to the event.
In exchange, they'll work three-hour shifts Aug. 9 and 10 to prepare for the party. They'll check in guests for the VIP Party (6 p.m. to 8 p.m.) that will be catered by Chef Kevin Sousa of Salt of the Earth.
They'll also sell tickets for the event ($125) and T-shirts, raffle tickets and Bike Pittsburgh memberships.
They'll do the same chores for the Main Party from 8 p.m. to midnight and then clean up. Tickets for the Main Party are $40; $35 for BikePGH members.
