The Richard S. Caliguiri City of Pittsburgh Great Race, months removed from the completion of its 35th annual running, has opened registration for the 2013 race, set to take place Sept. 29. The cap for the number of participants has been set at 15,500 runners/walkers this year. An "early bird" discount is being offered to the first 6,000 people who register for $25 per participant or $40 for two participants. Those not among the first 6,000 registrants will pay $30 to register for the event. Starting with the 2013 Great Race, there will be capped registration for each individual race.

The 10K run will be capped at 10,000 participants, and the 5K run/fitness walk will be capped at 5,500 participants.

Last year's field of 15,000 racers set a new record for the event, and the field has been expanded by 500 participants to satisfy growing demand for a race that routinely sells out.
